Mushrooms
Below, you can read which type of mushrooms are suitable for this recipe.
Eggs
These are used to coat the mushrooms. Use batter with flour for the vegan version.
Plain bread crumbs or panko bread crumbs
The ingredient that makes these mushrooms super crunchy.
Parmesan cheese
As an Italian, I put parmesan cheese everywhere, but you can also omit it.
Parsley, Garlic, or garlic powder: t
To taste.
Salt & Black Pepper
I will go with the simple, but the Italian seasoning is also fine.
Olive oil or avocado oil
It will help to brown the mushrooms. Use a cooking spray so that the oil is evenly distributed.
What Kind of Mushrooms Should I Use?
Champignon (white button mushrooms)
One of the most widely cultivated mushrooms on the market, the champignon mushroom, available in two varieties, white or brown, is distinguished by excellent flavor and a texture that offers great versatility.
Fleshy and compact.
Porcini Mushrooms
Compact, tasty, and very aromatic in cooking.
The flesh is white, firm, and compact. They have a strong aroma and an unmistakable flavor.
Oyster Mushroom
Virtually stemless with a large cap, these have very elastic flesh and fibrous flesh.
Combined with an extremely fresh and delicate taste, these characteristics are perfect for this recipe.
How To Clean Mushrooms
Mushroom cleaning should not involve overwashing; you can rub a slightly damp paper towel over the surface of the mushroom to remove soil that would otherwise stick to it.
Mushrooms are composed mainly of water, so they should never be washed under running water.
How To Cut Mushrooms
After cleaning them, take the mushroom and cut the stem from the cap.
It depends on the size of the mushrooms. If you use larger mushrooms, I recommend cutting them in half or slicing them to achieve a more uniform cooking.
How Do I Make This Air Fryer Mushrooms Recipe?
Clean the mushrooms
Cut off the stem of the mushroom.
Using a damp cloth, clean the mushroom to remove dirt. If necessary, cut the mushroom in half.
Prepare the breadcrumbs
In a bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, garlic, parsley, salt, and pepper, and mix well.
In a separate bowl, beat one egg.
Preheat the air fryer:
Preheat the air fryer to 375 F degrees (190 C degrees).
Bread the mushrooms
Dip the mushrooms first in the egg mixture and then in the breadcrumb mixture.
Repeat this operation twice to get a super crispy breading.
How Long To Cook Breaded Mushrooms In The Air Fryer
Place the mushrooms in the air fryer basket in a single layer, carefully not to overlap them.
Spray with oil, or help yourself with a kitchen brush.
Cook mushrooms at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 10 minutes.
Shake the basket halfway through cooking.
Different Cooking Methods
Deep frying: Pour enough oil into the frying pan. Add the mushrooms a little at a time when the oil is hot.
Fry for 6-10 minutes, turning them halfway through cooking.
Remove mushrooms from the oil and place them in a dish lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil
Oven: Bake at 400 degrees F for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Recipe Tips For Breaded Mushrooms In The Air Fryer
Choose mushrooms of a similar size: This will help you to have an even cooking process.
Bread well: With your hands, press the breadcrumb mixture well all over the mushroom to make it stick and give it a thicker coating.
Do not overlap during cooking. Cook in small batches to ensure the best crispy breaded mushrooms; if you put too many mushrooms in the fryer, the hot air will not circulate.
Recipe Variations
Corn flakes breading: Great not only for breakfast, these cereals, perhaps plain and not sweet, can be crushed into coarse pieces and used to coat foods for a crispy, golden, flavorful breading!
Eggless breading: You can get a nice crispy crust in two ways: moisten the mushroom in olive oil and dip it in breadcrumbs, perhaps scented with fresh herbs; alternatively, make a flour mixture by mixing water, flour, salt, and pepper.
Use panko: The Japanese version of our breadcrumbs.
It can be found ready-made in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese grocery stores, or you can make it at home by toasting and then processing white bread in a mixer.
Gluten-free breading: Use chickpea flour or almond flour, for example, which is fantastic for vegan recipes but delicious and very useful for stir-fries in powder or batter for tasty breading.
You can also use cornmeal or rice flour, which are equally tasty and flavorful. They are ideal for eggless but great breedings.
How To Serve These Air-Frying Mushrooms
You can serve these breaded mushrooms for a quick lunch but also as a delicious appetizer for a game day.
Moreover, it is a perfect side dish for your dinner parties.
I love to serve them with these delicious chicken cutlets or to accompany this pizza bagel or this mochiko chicken.

Do you think I could stuff these with sausage and then air fry them? They were great as is with just the breading. But we adore stuffed mushrooms too.

Delicious. I often find that homemade fried mushrooms can be a bit soggy. But these were flavourful and most important they were crispy! Everyone raved about them and asked for them again. YUMMY!
